Medical treatment, no surgery

Hair loss treatment in Colombia, led by a physician.

Most hair loss can be slowed, and often partly reversed, if it is treated while the follicles are still alive. Our hair restoration team in Medellín runs a medical program for exactly that: a free online consultation with our medical team, a personal plan with prescription treatment when it fits your case, and follow-up every three months with photos so progress is measured, not guessed. Plans start at $35 USD a month.

Who it's for

Treat it early, keep what you have.

A transplant moves hair; it does not stop the loss around it. The cheapest hair to keep is the hair you still have, which is why we start with medicine whenever the case allows it.

Receding temples or a thinning crown

Early male pattern loss (Norwood 2 to 4) is where medical treatment does the most. Not sure of your stage? See the Norwood scale.

Not ready for a transplant

Too early, wrong time, or you want to see what medicine can do first. Starting treatment now protects the donor and recipient areas a future surgery would rely on.

After a hair transplant

Transplanted hair is permanent; the native hair around it is not. A maintenance plan keeps the result looking full for years.

Women with diffuse thinning

Female pattern loss needs its own diagnosis and its own options; some treatments used in men are not suitable for women. More in women's hair restoration.

How the program works

  • Send four photos and a short health questionnaire by WhatsApp: front, both sides and the crown, plus your medications and medical history.
  • Free online consultation with our medical team. Your pattern and stage, what is causing the loss, and what is safe for you. If something needs ruling out first (thyroid, iron, a scalp condition), you hear that before any treatment.
  • A personal plan in writing. What to take or apply, at what dose, what to expect month by month and which side effects to watch for. Prescription treatment only when our doctors decide it fits your case.
  • Treatment delivered to your location, so you are not hunting pharmacies every month.
  • Follow-up every three months with photos taken the same way each time. The dose is adjusted, and at six to twelve months you get an honest verdict: working, partly working, or time to consider a transplant.

Start With a Consultation

A free consultation, then a monthly plan.

The consultation with our medical team costs nothing. If treatment fits your case, your plan has a monthly price that depends on what is prescribed, confirmed in writing before you start.

From $35 USD/month Consultation free. Your exact monthly price is in your written plan.

The treatments a physician may consider

These are the options with the strongest track record for pattern hair loss. None of them is right for everyone, and the choice, the dose and the form are made in your consultation, not on a website.

TreatmentWhat it doesWorth knowing
Finasteride (tablet)Lowers DHT, the hormone that shrinks follicles in pattern loss, to slow or stop the lossPrescription. Mainly for men. Possible sexual side effects in a minority; discussed openly before starting. More in finasteride side effects.
Oral minoxidil (low-dose tablet)Stimulates follicles that are thinning to grow thicker, longer hairPrescription, off-label at low dose. Acts on the whole body: unwanted body hair, dizziness or ankle swelling are possible, so it needs a medical review and follow-up.
Topical minoxidil (lotion or foam)The same effect, applied to the scalpA good option when tablets are not suitable. It only works while you keep using it. More in minoxidil for hair loss.
DutasterideA stronger DHT blocker, sometimes used when finasteride is not enoughPrescription, off-label for hair loss in many countries. Reserved for selected cases.
PRP and mesotherapyInjections into the scalp, used alongside medicationSupporting treatments, not a replacement for the above. How they compare in mesotherapy vs PRP vs transplant.

Shampoos, biotin and vitamins are popular, but on their own they do not stop pattern hair loss unless a deficiency is the cause. The full picture of androgenetic alopecia is in our treatment guide.

When medicine is not enough

Medical treatment protects and thickens hair that is still there. It does not grow hair where the scalp has gone smooth, because those follicles are gone. If that is your situation, or your follow-up photos show the treatment has reached its limit, a hair transplant is the option for restoring the area, and medical treatment keeps protecting the hair around it.

The advantage of starting here: the team that would plan your transplant already knows your case, has your photos over time and can tell you honestly whether and when surgery makes sense. Prices are published on our hair transplant cost page.

FAQ

Hair loss treatment, answered.

What is the best hair loss treatment?

There is no single best treatment for everyone. For common male pattern hair loss, the treatments with the strongest evidence are finasteride and minoxidil, which slow the loss and can thicken hair that is still there. Which one fits you, at what dose and in what form depends on your pattern, your stage, your health and whether you are a man or a woman. That is a physician's decision, made in a consultation.

How much does hair loss treatment cost?

The consultation with our medical team is free. If treatment fits your case, plans start at $35 USD a month. Your exact price depends on what is prescribed and is confirmed in your written plan before you start.

Can hair loss be treated without surgery?

Yes, while the follicles are still alive. Medical treatment protects and thickens hair that is thinning. It cannot regrow hair where the scalp is already smooth; there, a hair transplant is the option for getting hair back, and medical treatment keeps protecting the hair around it.

How long does hair loss treatment take to work?

Plan on at least six months before judging it, and twelve for the full picture. Some people shed more in the first weeks, which is usually hairs that were about to fall out anyway. That is why the program includes photo follow-ups every three months: progress is measured, not guessed.

Is oral minoxidil safe?

Low-dose oral minoxidil is an off-label use that many dermatologists and hair physicians prescribe. It acts on the whole body, so it can cause unwanted body or facial hair, dizziness, a faster heartbeat or ankle swelling, and it is not suitable for everyone, for example people with certain heart conditions or who are pregnant. A physician reviews your history before prescribing it and follows you up.

Do I need a prescription?

Finasteride, oral minoxidil and dutasteride are prescription medicines in Colombia. In the program, a physician assesses you first and only prescribes when it is right for your case.

What if the treatment stops being enough?

Then the same team tells you, with your follow-up photos in front of them. If an area has gone smooth, a hair transplant is the option for restoring it, and you already have a team that knows your case and a medical plan that protects the result.
